Trends in European Forestry
The first course of the MSc EF, Trends in European Forestry, has a duration of 4 weeks (8 ECTS credits). The aim of the course is to familiarise students with European Forestry related issues. Students will learn about European forest resources, forest dynamics in different vegetation zones of Europe and recent developments in forest policy making. After completion of the course, student should have a comprehensive picture of cultural, biological, social and environmental aspects of European forests and forest management.
Contents: The course consists of several blocks, each of which is taught by experts from various European countries. Emphasis will be on policy analysis, social dynamics, business management, market and trade, forest legislation and taxation, aspects of cultural diversity, resource management, ecology and biodiversity. Study mode: Lectures, field trips and a panel debate. Problem solving in groups and written assignments based on lectures and field trips. Final examination.
Instructor: The course is organised by the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU). The coordinator of the course is Roland Hörnfeldt. Lectures are given by different experts from various European countries. The contact person is Marjoriitta Möttönen.
