Willow cultivation has long traditions in Finland. The multipurpose of the tree and its adaptation to different conditions has inspired farmers through the ages. It has always been possible to find uses for willow that meet the demands of the day; it has been used as raw material for basket makers and hide tanners to pharmaceutical industry and restoring areas polluted by heavy metals. The most important uses of willow today are energy forestry and environmental forestry.
